does a ps3 keep downloading a game if it is turned to stand by mode?

I am trying to download “ratchet and clank: quest for booty” by it is insanely slow, like 3 percent after an hour. It usually takes about an hour to download an update. I have a DSL connection and it shows a good connection, 100 percent on a secure wireless connection. Can I speed this up at all?

I don’t know how to speed the download up, but to answer your question, the PS3 must be on for the downloads to occur.
